We participated in a demonstration project at Sloan's Lake in Denver Colorado on May 15th. It was sponsored by Pinyon Environmental, Ferguson Waterworks, Beemats and the Denver Parks and Recreation Department. Thirty 12 year old girls from local middle schools, who are enrolled in the GSTEM academic program, learned about aquatic plant biology, water quality sampling and floating wetlands. Each girl planted a small floating wetland island for deployment in the lake. The City of Denver is considering proposals to utilize floating treatment wetlands to mitigate nutrient pollution in this 180 acre lake.
