Osprey Pond is located adjacent to the City of Titusville wastewater treatment plant and just west of the Florida East Coast Railroad tracks. The shoreline of the Indian River Lagoon is immediately east of the railroad bed and the pond has an outfall to the estuary. The water in this 2.3 acre pond is brackish. The City approved the installation of floating treatment wetlands to capture nitrogen and phosphorus runoff before it discharges to the Indian River.
We installed 5,000 square feet of Beemats in December 2020, planted with salt tolerant vegetation. In the first year, the biomass removed 147.22 pounds of nitrogen and 17.32 pounds of phosphorus from the pond water through harvest and removal.
