The stormwater pond at Marina Point Park discharges directly into the Indian River Lagoon through a control structure at its east end. In an effort to reduce the nutrient releases to the estuary, the City of Titusville approved the deployment of 2,178 square feet of floating treatment wetlands in the one acre pond.
We installed seven floating wetland islands in June 2021, covering 5 % of the pond’s surface area. Due to periodic backflows to the pond from the lagoon, the water is brackish, so the wetlands are vegetated with halophytes that thrive and take up nitrogen and phosphorus in salty water.
