The Flounder Creek Pond is located near the community of Scottsmoor, in close proximity to the Indian River Lagoon. It is completely surrounded by pasture land and some large lot residential development. The pond is 2.26 acres (98,445.6 square feet) with 4,923 square feet of floating treatment wetlands, which were installed in February 2016. Although this is a rural location, the nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations are relatively heavy. The average annual uptake rates by the plants on the floating wetlands are in the neighborhood of 220 pounds of nitrogen and 38 pounds of phosphorus. Over the past six years, we have prevented 1,263.05 pounds of nitrogen and 221.06 pounds of phosphorus from reaching the adjacent estuary.
